Dear Post Master,
I am writing to convey the dismay I felt upon opening my mailbox today and
seeing what could be, at best, described as carelessly handled mail. People
of an unfriendly nature might be inclined to call it vandalism.
Like many people, I normally enjoy receiving mail, but today I stood staring
slack-jawed at a deeply creased, curled up envelope that contained enlarged
photographs (see accompanying photo #1) and said to myself “Ah, the craftsmanship
of the American worker. We meet again”. Adding insult to injury, the envelope
was clearly marked “Photos Enclosed. Please Do Not Bend. Bent Photos Break
Hearts” (see accompanying photo #2). Now I have both bent photographs
and a broken heart, and who’s going to deal with all that?
This is not the first time this exact thing has happened, just the first time
I had a camera with me when it did happen. Needless to say, the envelope could
have been placed in the larger box for oversized mail only twelve inches to
the left, or, god forbid, the postal carrier could have taken a minute to get
out of their truck and safely deliver my mail to my door. Not telling anybody
how to do their job here, just pointing out a few options. Bottom line, I would
really appreciate it if your underlings didn’t practice their origami
skills on my expensive photographic enlargements.
Cradling both mutilated photos and a broken heart in my world-weary hands,
